My Review

I am a huge fan of Layla Hagen and her Lost series and was super excited to read this standalone novel. Withering Hope was such an emotional rollercoaster and the ending was a tear jerker. I would say this one is my favourite so far, but I cannot wait for more from Ms Hagen. I love her style, her characters have depth and growth and are relatable. The detailing was amazing and it was so beautiful to read.

Aimee Myller is a lawyer, twenty-six years old and getting married in a week to her best friend Chris Moore. Aimee and Chris have been friends since they were kids. Their parents were close friends and as Aimee’s parents travelled a lot for work, she stayed with the Moore’s and became an honorary family member.

As the years wore on, Chris and Aimee grew closer and took the step into a relationship. Their friends were worried they were more like brother/sister than an actual couple with spark. But with a week until their wedding, Aimee was desperate to be with him and flew out as soon as she could to the ranch in Brazil where they are getting married.

Tristan Bress, twenty-eight is a mystery to Aimee, he is quiet, won’t talk about this personal life and distances himself from others. He was employed by Chris as a pilot for the private jet and also drives Aimee when he’s not flying around.

Tristan was flying Aimee over to Brazil, she’s an anxious flyer and with Tristan telling her they will hit turbulence, Aimee is even more worried. CRASH BANG! When Aimee wakes its dark and her head hurts. They have landed in the Amazon rainforest.

There’s no communication capabilities, no engine, its dark and they are deep in the forest; what are they going to do to survive until they’re rescued? The next day they head down in search of water, they discover water and lots of it, but it’s muddy and deep. They are surrounded by water!

Tristan grows in me more and more every day, with every kind thing he does to make things bearable for me, and every soothing word he speaks.

Each day Aimee lights a signal fire and they look for food and water hoping they’ll be found very soon. The pair discover a lot of nasty flora and fauna in the jungle and learn that even food is dangerous. Aimee is a talker and starts at Tristan with questions. She is determined to find out more of this gentleman, this protector, this handsome warrior that will do everything and anything to keep her safe.

I was supposed to find out today if my boss had assigned me to one of our biggest cases. And now I'm contemplating learning how to shoot with a bow. A bit ironic.

Will they be rescued? Will they be alive if they are found? Will Aimee give in to their chemistry that sends electrical currents through her skin when he touches her? What is breaking down their fences and ruining their water supply?

Emotional turmoil, intense love, intriguing, dramatic, action packed and totally addictive; these are some of the qualities in this fabulous book and I was crying and laughing out loud along with Aimee, willing them to keep strong and to keep working together through every challenge they faced. I highly recommend Withering Hope to all romance readers.
