5* Book Review of Bad Romeo by Leisa Rayven

Bad Romeo - Leisa Rayven
Summary: 'Leisa Rayven crashes onto the romance scene: laughing, flirting, and just daring us to put Bad Romeo down. I couldn't!'

CHRISTINA LAUREN, New York Times bestselling author of Beautiful Bastard.

While performing the greatest love story of all time, they discovered one of their own . . .

Cassie Taylor was just another good girl acting student. Ethan Holt was the bad boy on campus. Then one fated casting choice for Romeo and Juliet changed it all. Like the characters they were playing onstage, Cassie and Ethan's epic romance seemed destined. Until it ended in tragedy when he shattered her heart.

Now they've made it to Broadway where they're reunited as romantic leads once again - and their passionate scenes force them to confront the heartbreaking lows and pulse-pounding highs of their intense college affair. For Ethan, losing Cassie was h is biggest regret-and he's determined to redeem himself. But for Cassie, even though Ethan was her first and only great love, he hurt her too much to ever be trusted again. The trouble is, when it comes to love, sometimes it's the things that aren't good for us that are the most irresistible.

Don't miss the intoxicating romance beloved by more than two million fans online.

I was extremely intrigued by Bad Romeo when the opportunity for review came up; it sounded like a lot of fun, angst and romance; the push pull, ups and downs of fighting against their feelings and trials of becoming an actress. For a debut, Bad Romeo was fantastically written and fast paced. And who can turn down a story about Romeo and Juliet, no matter that Ethan thinks he’s a bad Romeo, it’s just a fantastic story of inevitable love and magnetism.

Eighteen year old Cassandra Taylor (Cassie) moved across the country in order to audition for the best drama school in the country in New York City. What she didn’t realise at the time was she would fall in love and find a boy that she was so drawn to, she couldn’t stop herself from touching him whenever they were around each other.

Cassie was the perfect daughter, never questioning her parents, always following their rules and never experienced teenage life. She had never drank alcohol, smoked, eaten anything unhealthy or slept with a boy; even her curse words are imitation. So when she arrives in New York City all alone and surrounded by chaos, Cassie doesn’t know who she is any more.

The book begins in the present where Cassie is rushing to get to rehearsals for her current show. She is now around twenty-five and holds bitterness within towards her one and only love. What did Ethan Holt do to her that ruined her for other men?

Cassie is going to have trouble working with Ethan again, especially in this production that has so many painful but exciting memories for her.  Cassie is trying to avoid talking to Ethan about their past, but seeing him every day it can’t be avoided for long. Cassie tells Ethan they are there to do a job and that’s all. Ethan is persistent though and won’t give up fighting for Cassie.

Cassie’s roommate and life coach suggested she start a diary to expel her feelings and help diagnose what led her to the person she is today. Throughout her diary entries, Cassie talks about Ethan and their past, how they met and what eventuated between the two. Their fight to be accepted into The Grove Institute of Creative Arts School.

Back to the past, six years earlier, Cassie was a shy girl that wanted to be accepted by her peers. Seeing a handsome boy across the room, her breath was taken away when they locked eyes. Their connection and chemistry couldn’t be denied and they get cast as the leads in the school production of Romeo and Juliet.

They continued through school to fight their chemistry and with Ethan’s fear of commitment, Cassie never knew where she stood. Right from the start, Ethan tells her they won’t even be friends, let alone a couple, but that doesn’t stop their feelings from escalating or from their hands from wandering.

Will they officially become a couple? Will Ethan get over his fear enough to open his heart to Cassie? Will they become famous? Will they be stars? Will they travel the world? Can Cassie let go of her bitterness in the present to let Ethan hold her heart again?

Ms Rayven has a fabulous set of characters and I can see the potential in creating more books for the others to share their stories. Bad Romeo is a must read for all new adult readers, it was full of angst, emotional turmoil and Cassie discovering herself as well as her body. A MUST READ!
