Wow, Karen-Anne Stewart has amazing talent, the ability to describe in detail the horrific events that Raina went through and the trafficking ring that Kas is investigating. The characters have strong attributes and are so loveable. I am certainly glad to have discovered this series and cannot wait to read the second book, Healing Rain.
Raina Kapture is a 19 year old that has had a horrific life for such a young person. Her Mother died when she was 6 in a tragic accident and her Father blamed her for the death. Since that fateful day, Raina has had to tip toe around her Father, but never quite escapes his wrath.
Now in college, Raina is a genius in translation and has been asked to assist the FBI in translating transcripts and to interpret the victims. Meeting Kas Pierce for the first time, they discovered an instant attraction, but of course Raina is dating Chris and would not act on it.
Chris Sutton is a jealous man and cannot stand the thought of Raina spending time (even for work) with Kas. Raina has decided she will not submit to his rage and fights back, but she is still beaten within an inch of her life and almost taken advantage of in her delirious state. In comes the knight in shining armour, Kas knows that something is amiss and will hopefully find her in time.
Her recovery is a slow one and with the friendship between Kas and Raina growing quickly, he demands she stay with him until she is fully recovered. Raina doesn’t want to impose, but knows she won’t win. Staying with Kas is unusual but they quickly start a routine. Kas knows that Raina is hiding some major secrets and although Kas wants to know what happened in her past, he doesn’t want to pressure her or push her away.
Their feelings escalate and Raina is saving herself for marriage. The longer they spend time together, the more they fall in love. Raina discloses one of her secrets, she is a genius with computers and is able to assist Kas with recovering data from damaged computers. Each passing day, Raina’s confidence grows and her trust in Kas increases. Sharing her secrets is still hard and Kas is getting frustrated. He wants answers and will do anything to get them from another source.
What was so bad that Raina will not talk about? What did her Father do to her? Can she ever truly give herself to Kas without the secrets? What happened with Chris? Can Raina be happy?
With the trafficking ring, the horrific past and present that Raina had to live through, I am flabbergasted. This is a wonderful example of human emotion and how the body can sustain itself. How love can come when you least expect it! I was crying along with Raina and with all the intrigue I just couldn’t put it down. I highly recommend this to all new adult readers.
