5* Book Review of Beautiful Oblivion by Jamie McGuire

Summary: The Beautiful Disaster and Walking Disaster phenomenon continues in the first heart-pounding new adult romance in The Maddox Brothers series.

Fiercely independent Camille "Cami" Camlin gladly moved on from her childhood before it was over. She has held down a job since before she could drive, and moved into her own apartment after her freshman year of college. Now tending bar at The Red Door, Cami doesn’t have time for much else besides work and classes, until a trip to see her boyfriend is cancelled, leaving her with a first weekend off in almost a year.

Trenton Maddox was the king of Eastern State University, dating co-eds before he even graduated high school. His friends wanted to be him, and women wanted to tame him, but after a tragic accident turned his world upside down, Trenton leaves campus to come to grips with the crushing guilt.

Eighteen months later, Trenton is living at home with his widower father, and works full-time at a local tattoo parlor to help with the bills. Just when he thinks his life is returning to normal, he notices Cami sitting alone at a table at The Red.

As the baby sister of four rowdy brothers, Cami believes she’ll have no problem keeping her new friendship with Trenton Maddox strictly platonic. But when a Maddox boy falls in love, he loves forever—even if she is the only reason their already broken family could fall apart.

In the first installment of the Maddox Brothers books, readers can experience the rush of reading Beautiful Disaster for the first time, all over again.

So this is my first experience reading a book by Jamie McGuire, even though I have the Beautiful series on my TBR list. I am now addicted to the Maddox brothers and cannot wait to read more; this book was unforgettable. Cami has such a quirky spirit and a strong protagonist, with her no BS attitude, you can’t help but love her. Trent, well who couldn’t love a bad boy Maddox, hot hot hot.

Camille Camlin (Cami) is twenty two years old and doesn’t have an easy family life. Finally being able to get out on her own is exhilarating and living with her BFF, Raegan is never dull. Cami is frustrated with her relationship with T.J. He’s living in a different city now and keeps cancelling their weekend visits. After another cancellation, Raegan suggests they go out and end up at the club where they work. Red Door is a busy place and full of action and hot bodies. This is where Trenton sidles up to Cami and buys her drinks.

By the end of the night, Trent has her phone number and is messaging her for lunch the following day. Trent isn’t giving Cami any choice in the matter and just keeps turning up to take her out. Using all the tricks in the book, Trent is resolved to see Cami.

Cami has known Trent since grade school and knows of his player status; Cami always stayed away as she didn’t want to be another notch on his bedpost. Though now he seems to have changed and she is drawn to his charismatic personality and his caring and fun attitude.

When Cami’s brother comes to her for help, Cami needs another job and Trent offers her the one where he works. Skin Deep is a piercing and tattoo shop that Trent loves working at. Cami checks it out and loves the atmosphere. Now she has to see Trent even more….

T.J. comes for a surprise visit, it’s like he’s proving she still belongs to him but leaves just as quick. Cami is totally confused. The more time she spends with Trent, the more she tries not to fall for him, but it’s getting harder.

Cami keeps trying to convince Trent (and herself) that their relationship is purely platonic, but as their feelings grow stronger, will they be able to hold onto that simplicity? What is T.J. hiding and why he always cancelling? What happened with Cami’s family for her to want to escape? Will she end things with T.J. and let Trent into her heart?

I absolutely loved this book, Beautiful Oblivion is fast paced with intrigue, fun and steamy scenes. When Cami finally opens herself up, there are no words to describe the emotional feelings that unfold. Obviously the work of a master author. I cannot wait to read more from this author and highly recommend this to all romance readers.
