5* Book Review of Storm by Jo Raven

Release (v3)
Check it out! The latest release from Jo Raven and a new series, STORM.

Storm (Sex and Bullets, #1)Storm by Jo Raven
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I am a huge fan of Jo Raven and love the Inked Brotherhood and Damage Control. I was looking forward to this new series and was definitely not disappointed. HOT DAMN, what a sizzler! Storm was fabulously written, with twists along the way that kept me guessing and secrets hidden behind every corner. I certainly cannot wait for the next in this series and from Damage Control also.

Raylin O’Brien is nineteen and on the run. For the past two years she’s been trying to stay alive and under the radar from her father’s debt collectors. Hoping to have a quiet breather on a beach in Florida, Ray borrows a mansion and hides away. Until she notices a red-hot guy jogging down the beach. She’s intrigued, but still wary, up until he seems to disappear in the wild waves of a storm.

Their first meeting Ray notices his scars, his tattoos and the slight limp. What happened to this man? She is immediately drawn to him and their electricity cannot be denied for long; the pair quickly give in to their desires.

Storm has characteristics like his name would suggest, he’s moody, unpredictable and lightning hot. Just twenty-one, he’s keeping secrets of his own and Ray doesn’t know whether to believe his story or if she should share her own.

From past experience, Ray knows she mustn’t stay long or get attached, it could lead to trouble not only for herself but for Storm as well. But Storm knows the right words and one day leads to another and another until pieces of the puzzle cannot be hidden for too long.

Can they trust the other enough to share their secrets? Will their past catch up before the answers are given? Can they overcome their fears and the secrets that hunt them? Who is Storm really?

Follow the journey of both Storm and Ray to discover the deeply hidden secrets that will keep you guessing up until the very end. I fell in love with Storm, whose heart is big and strong, but vulnerable too. The characters within are fabulous and so very intriguing. Ms Raven has created a world full of mysteries, danger, scorching hot alphas and strong females, but the contrast between the three men is diverse and I cannot wait to read more about Hawk and Rook.

5* Book Review of Sustained by Emma Chase

Sustained (The Legal Briefs Series) - Emma Chase
Summary: A knight in tarnished armor is still a knight.

When you’re a defense attorney in Washington, DC, you see firsthand how hard life can be, and that sometimes the only way to survive is to be harder. I, Jake Becker, have a reputation for being cold, callous, and intimidating—and that suits me just fine. In fact, it’s necessary when I’m breaking down a witness on the stand.

Complications don’t work for me—I’m a “need-to-know” type of man. If you’re my client, tell me the basic facts. If you’re my date, stick to what will turn you on. I’m not a therapist or Prince Charming—and I don’t pretend to be.

Then Chelsea McQuaid and her six orphaned nieces and nephews came along and complicated the ever-loving hell out of my life. Now I'm going to Mommy & Me classes, One Direction concerts, the emergency room, and arguing cases in the principal's office.

Chelsea’s too sweet, too innocent, and too gorgeous for her own good. She tries to be tough, but she’s not. She needs someone to help her, defend her…and the kids.

And that — that, I know how to do.

  Title: Sustained

Released: 25th August 2015
Genre: Adult Contemporary Romance

I had seen Emma Chase’s name around the www and when the opportunity became available to grab Sustained, I couldn’t resist. Ms Chase has now become a favourite, I absolutely loved Sustained and also listened to the audiobook of Overruled. And again it was fabulous too. I haven’t read a book surrounding lawyers previously and was extremely happy when I didn’t find a whole lot of legal jargon that would have just confused me. The characters were fabulous and who wouldn’t fall in love with Jake Becker.

Jake Becker is a thirty year old defence attorney that rebuffs relationships. If his hook-up leaves without a hitch the morning after, he may meet up with her again, otherwise it’s only once. The problem is, when he meets Chelsea McQuaid, thoughts of other women go straight out the window and Jake finds himself becoming attached very quickly to her and her 8 nieces and nephews.

Jake is known for his stature in the courtroom, never being intimidated by anyone. He was a bad boy who was turned into the lawyer he is today, by hard work and determination from one the most respected Judges in the business.

After having the longest two weeks of his life, he is introduced to a nine year old with a chip on his shoulder. When he takes Rory home, he’s astounded to discover a beautiful woman looking after a menagerie of children by herself.

Chelsea McQuaid is superwoman, through tragedy she became the guardian of her nieces and nephews ranging in age from infant to fourteen. At twenty six, she put her life on hold to become the person the children needed.

Jake cannot get the superwoman out of his head. Her strength, determination and patience is innumerable. He seems to jump when she asks and falls deeper without realising it. Not having had a relationship before, Jake’s worried he’s not good enough and she deserves someone better.

Will Jake allow himself to fully love Chelsea and the kids? Can he allow his career path to follow a different direction that is right?

Jake has a soft heart if only he would recognize it and his caring nature is extremely admirable. He is such a great character and surrounded by wonderful friends. The ending was fabulous and shows that no matter what, you can change for the better at any time in your life. I cannot wait to read Brent’s story next in Appealed, due for release 17th November 2015. I highly recommend this book to all romance readers. It’s just amazing! 5 PAPER HEARTS

5* Book Review of Jesse by Jo Raven

Jesse (Damage Control Book 2) - Jo Raven
Summary: Returning to Madison hurts. I thought I’d left my past behind, but the past goes on living. I carry it inside of me, it’s a piece of me. People have marked me in indelible ways and I drag the shreds of my soul behind me, trying to put my pieces back together. I’m not the Amber I used to be. I fly under the radar, try to be invisible.

It doesn't always work. Drawing attention scares me. It always spells trouble. Returning to my home town is a last ditch effort to lay my demons to rest and start anew, for good this time.

Meeting Jesse Lee wasn’t in the plan. Yet here he is with his heart-stopping, sexy grin, handsome like a god, shining bright. He’s full of life, full of heat, packing the energy of a thousand suns in his gaze and muscular body. Jesse burns, and the pain of being near him is sweet.

But he’s foiling my plans. It’s hard to remain a ghost when he’s around. Hard to avoid his attention, to remain invisible. He sees me, really sees me, and behind his bright radiance, I can see shadows from his own past crowding in. He’s swimming hard to stay afloat even as he reaches for me.

What is he afraid of? And how can he save me from drowning when he can’t even save himself?

Standalone novel. No cliffhanger.

JESSE (DamageControl2)Title: Jesse
Series: Damage Control #2
Author: Jo Raven
Publisher: self published
Released: 20th July 2015
Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance
Format: eARC
Source: Author for an honest review.

This is my first encounter reading a Jo Raven novel, but I must say, HOLY MOLY. The Damage Control series is a spin-off from Inked Brotherhood and can all be read as stand-alone with the characters inter-connecting throughout. This is a wonderful concept as it allows the reader to pick up one of the books whenever, without having to read the first or in any particular order. So, I read Jesse and Amber’s story, a dual point of view that was just fantastic. Ms Raven is a master at disguising emotion and kindness in alpha males that appear dangerous and unapproachable.

Nineteen year old Amber Walsh has just moved back to Madison after living in Chicago for the past three years. Her parents decided to move away and allow Amber to regain her confidence and grow in strength. But as is life, sometimes the only way to move forward is to face your past and your demons. What she didn’t realise was that her past would also create a future she didn’t realise she wanted or needed until he almost knocked her over.

Amber has moved in with her best friend’s friend, Kayla. Her best friend, Ev, has moved out and into a place with her boyfriend, so a party is being held as a farewell. This party takes place the first night Amber is in the apartment and it certainly isn’t what she expected.

Amber is not a sociable person, she cannot handle crowds and struggles with normal social dialect. There’s no filter between her brain and her mouth sometimes and it’s another embarrassing trait.

She’s introduced to Ev’s friends, the Damage Boyz and the Inked Brotherhood. She is astounded by all the picture perfect people surrounding her and feels inadequate. Running again, Amber heads to her room, but is interrupted by a half dressed guy coming out the bathroom. She can’t speak, frozen from his dangerously beautiful looks and it only gets worse when a girl comes out after him.

"He's a dick. The most beautiful man I've ever set eyes on, and he's an arrogant douche."
"The shinier the package, the dirtier the soul, it seems."

He’s introduced as Jesse Lee and the longer she sees him at the party, the more Amber is drawn to him. But it is clear he’s a womaniser. This dangerous hottie has a black past that nobody really knows the full story to and the more time Amber spends with him, the more curious she is about HIS demons.

Jesse Lee believes he doesn’t deserve to be happy. Doesn’t deserve to have a girl like Amber. He tries with all his might to stay away from her, but she is his light and they can’t deny their desire for long.

What happened in Amber and Jesse’s past? Will Amber ever trust Jesse considering his past lifestyle? Will Jesse be able to stay faithful to Amber? Is Jesse ever going to believe he isn’t living on borrowed time?

AMAZING! This was a beautifully intense love story that has some very real issues inside. The horrors of Jesse’s life and the anxiety that changed Amber forever were powerful and so detailed that I couldn’t help but be drawn into their story. Kayla was a fabulous character also, I loved her quirky tea leaf reading and fun antics. This is a definite favourite and I cannot wait to pick up others from the fabulous author.

My Review

"I don't want to shadow a spoiled pretty boy who sings about making love on tractors anyway."

I became a fan of Miranda Kenneally’s books after reading Breathe, Annie, Breathe a year ago. It was a fabulous young adult romance and I couldn’t wait to see what was in store for me this time. I was definitely hooked to Jesse’s Girl, the characters were fun and I liked the fact they had realistic flaws just like me. As with the last book, this one was fabulously written, with easy flow and great paced.

Seventeen year old, Maya Henry is the middle child in the Henry household. With career day coming up, Maya stated she wanted to be a musician. Her principal, Dr Salter teed up for Maya to meet the infamous Jesse Scott. Maya picked up her first guitar in first grade and knew from then she wanted to perform and play guitar.

Meeting Jesse is like a dream come true and Maya has an all-access pass backstage. When she sees him, Maya cannot deny how good-looking he is, but she is immediately put on the defensive when he believes she just another groupie.

Maya is severely disappointed with meeting Jesse, she just wants to learn about the industry and he is rude, arrogant and moody. Although Maya cannot deny that once he’s on stage, he’s a different person and is fabulous.

Friday is THE day for Maya to shadow Jesse Scott. She will get her chance to see what it’s really like to be a famous musician. From the moment she walks inside his house, Jesse makes it known he isn’t impressed at having her around. Once they actually begin talking business though, Jesse pushes Maya and a plan forms. The schedule for the day goes out the window and Jesse gives Maya the best day of her life.

It seems Jesse has his own issues in life that’s hidden from the rest of the world and with Maya being the up front and no nonsense type of girl, sets him straight. She shows Jesse what a real teenager should be doing and how many people could benefit from his generosity.

Will Maya actually learn anything from this country superstar besides being hounded by press and fans? Why is Jesse not following his heart? Will Maya find the courage to follow her dream? Can Jesse find room in his life for a girl that pushes his boundaries and makes him smile?

Follow along the journey of discovery for Maya AND Jesse. This is a fabulous book that shows dreams can come true if you follow your heart, work hard enough and have enough determination to prove yourself. I love how generous, kind and charming Jesse can be when he opens himself to possibilities. Maya shows how heartache, betrayal and hurdles can be overcome. Ms Kenneally truly is a master and I cannot wait to see what’s next.

I am a huge fan of Maya Banks and had the pleasure of having High Tea with her when she visited Australia last December. Ms Banks is such a lovely, down to earth person and of course her books are just fabulous. I have read some of her Sweet series, which are awesome and this is the first I’ve read of the Slow Burn series. Not having read books 1 or 2 didn’t make any difference for me and the prose is wonderful, so easy to read as the story unfolds before your eyes.

Zack Covington is thirty-two years old and is tired of having his past invade his thoughts at every waking moment. Zack is determined to move on from the disappearance of his love, his whole world, Gracie twelve years ago. When she just up and disappeared without a word, Zack has been fraught with heartache ever since, never knowing if she was dead or alive. Working with Devereaux Security Services (DSS), Zack had hoped it would help him discover the truth about her, but nothing has turned up. Now he’s going to put it behind him, be happy and live in the present.

Fate has another path for him it would seem. Only two days after his promise to himself, a job comes up at an art gallery. Meeting with the client, a painting comes into view and Zack almost blacks out, the scene is one of a personal nature that only he and another know of, his Gracie. She’s alive?

Anna-Grace is been living in fear and in hiding for the last twelve years. She hasn’t faced her past and wants to keep running when Zack appears in the gallery. Everything from that night comes back to hit her full force. She is utterly terrified of Zack and beyond hurt from his betrayal that broke her heart and body.

When Zack learns part of Gracie’s story, he is sickened and then furious that Gracie would think he was capable of such things. Now determined to get to the bottom of that incident, Zack goes on the hunt. In the meantime, DSS has been given an appalling message, their enemy is still around and everyone associated with them is in danger.

Will Zack discover what really happened with Gracie twelve years ago? Will Anna-Grace listen to Zack and listen to her heart? Who is the foe threatening the lives of DSS agents? Can Zack and Gracie ever be truly happy and in love again? Safe At Last, will Gracie be finally safe?

Well, what a fabulous read from Ms Banks, which is the fact with every book she writes. Safe At Last was certainly a romantic suspense, it kept me on the edge of my seat with intrigue and with tears for Gracie and for Zack’s heartache. Everything was so emotionally charged that I couldn’t help but feel for these characters. This is a definite read for suspense readers and I will certainly be reading the rest in the series.

About the Author

MayaBanks02_bioMy name is Maya Banks and I live in Texas with my husband and three children and our assortment of pets. I’m more of a cat person, but my daughter became convinced she NEEDED a dog. So convinced in fact that it became her mission to convince her father and me. She prepared a two page handwritten proposal that detailed WHY she needed a dog, and well, after I sent her to her father (I knew he wouldn’t tell her no) we embarked on the search for the perfect dog. The journey that was two hours away and that I got pulled over for speeding while I was on the phone with my agent who had an offer from a publisher for one of my books… The officer wasn’t impressed. He wrote me a ticket anyway. Thus, I now tell my daughter that her dog turned into one very expensive concession! But isn’t he cute?

When I’m not writing, I love to hunt and fish with my family. We all love the outdoors and go on family hunting trips every year. We also love to travel. One of our more recent trips was to Scotland, which was every bit as comical as National Lampoon’s European Vacation. You know the part about “Look kids, Big Ben, Parliament” as they went round and round the roundabouts? Yeah, that was us, only we couldn’t even get out of the airport in Glasgow without hitting three of those suckers.

Perhaps the most rewarding aspect of a writing career is getting to meet so many wonderful readers. There’s nothing better than dishing books with someone who loves the romance genre as much as I do. Romance readers are passionate and vocal. We love our books, love our happily ever afters, and we love to spend time talking to others about our favorites. THIS is why I love my job so much, and I’m so grateful to readers who gave ME a chance when I began my career. So thank you.

My Review

Step F*@k Parts 1 to 4

Step romances must be the current thing as I’ve seen a few around. The forbidden love concept has some intense potential, and that’s the case in this book. This is also Scarlett Ward’s debut and a fabulous beginning, I must say. Broken into a serial type series, Step F*@k was a quick read that left me wanting to know what happens next. I thoroughly enjoyed parts one, three and four, the second was a little less intense and slightly predictable, but the overall story was great.

Emma is studying to become an architect, but her real passion is painting. Following in her father’s footsteps was more important to her and painting has been all but forgotten. Emma’s mother is marrying some former Hollywood start and seems to be a bit of a bridezilla.

It’s been six months, three weeks and five days since Emma broke up Tom (not that she’s counting) and she’s still hurt by his betrayal. But her roommate and best friend, Megan decides to take matters into her own hands and signs Emma up on a dating site. Emma’s screen name is “beautifuldreamer” and almost immediately somebody wants to chat with her. “Sexystranger258” seems nice and his photos are hot, Emma begins chatting and flirting and then agrees to meet him.

With some liquid courage and Megan by her side, Emma meets up with sexystranger258.

Jai doesn’t even want to be in L.A., once the wedding is done and dusted, he’s heading back to London. He’s slightly jaded (LOL) about relationships since his parents divorce, and has declared to never get married. He’s a little sceptical of his father marrying again, especially when he hasn’t known his bride-to-be for very long.

He’s meeting a woman in the bar, needs to release some pent-up frustration and what better way than to meet a real, beautiful American woman. He is pleasantly surprised by this one, she is beautiful and fun, but he can tell she is more the girlfriend type than just a hook-up.

Emma is mesmerised by this man’s handsomeness, she eagerly agrees to go back to his room and it isn’t long before they’re frantic with each other.

The next night is the big “family” dinner, when the Brady bunch type deal happens. Emma and her sister Jessica get to meet their new step-brother. Emma is shocked to find her step-brother is none other than the handsome “sexystranger258”.

Jai thinks it’s hilarious, but with Emma horrified will they hook up again? They have two weeks of being around each other before the wedding, can they behave? Will the parents find out about their tryst?

With both characters never having felt these intense and natural feelings that they were meant to be, follow as they make their decisions on yes or no and what happens after the wedding. There were some surprises along the way and a lot of fun. Emma and Jai was such enjoyable characters and everybody needs to pick up this short fab series for a well-written, intense and humorous romance.

My Review

Being the second in the series, I was looking forward to reading Cade’s story. I seem to be addicted to motorcycle club romances at the moment and this one is definitely another terrific read. Dawn is certainly a strong character that has gone through a lot in life, the drama surrounding her was immense and the badass biker, Cade shows his soft sweet side; the sacrifices we should all be willing to make for the ones we love. I did find it a little long and the political drama around the clubs was a little confusing for me. But overall it was a great read and addition to the series.

Dawn Delgado has two beautiful twin girls. Their father decided to be a bastard and took them away, now Dawn’s only goal in life is to get them back and clear her name.

Dawn had met Cade “Ryder” O’Connor when she was helping her best friend, Arianne and they’ve had a couple of very hot and very intense nights together. Both times though, Dawn has snuck out in the middle of the night, determined not to get involved with another biker, since she barely escaped the last one. Although, it seems trouble tracks Dawn everywhere she goes, Jimmy can’t handle that she left him. Her seven years with Jimmy weren’t picnics and roses and she will not go back.

Jimmy “Mad Dog” Sanchez has custody of his daughters, but his sister cares for them. Shelly-Ann is not kind, caring or nurturing at all and seems to have other things on her mind. She is bleeding Dawn dry, using her love for her daughters to demand all the money Dawn has. But why?

Cade is the Sinner’s Tribe treasurer and loyal to a fault. The rules he takes very seriously and when he sees Mad Dog in town when he was banished, Cade takes off in pursuit to hand out due punishment. Will he catch him or is it a trap?

He has never felt so drawn to a woman before and tries to fight their connection, but when trouble hits, Dawn is the only thing he’s really concerned about. There is also a lot of jealousy going on with Cade and a certain police detective, where Cade shows his alpha male tendencies.

Cade is determined to have Dawn, but can he commit when his devotion is to his tribe? Will Dawn accept Cade isn’t like Jimmy and she’s meant to be a biker chick? Will Dawn choose Cade over the civilian police detective? Can Dawn get her name cleared and her girls back?

I loved the dual point of view from both Dawn and Cade and the writing style by Sarah Castille is fabulous. All the characters are strong, showing growth and emotion. Beyond the Cut was full of intrigue, drama, love and spades of action. Will I read Sinner’s Steel and find out what Zane’s problem is with women? OF COURSE, I cannot wait.

Dax Davies has one job to fulfill in the Davies household. Earn money at the family business. The problem is that the family business was illegal underground fighting.

From a young age, Dax and his brothers are groomed to become money earners in their father's club. Broken bones and bruises are commonplace. Their father pits the brothers against each other to 'toughen them up' for the ring, using his rules to bend his sons to his will. His future is in the cage, not on stage where he dreams of making music.

Kate Campbell loves one thing in life. Well, two. Soccer and Dax Davies. Growing up in the poorest part of London, soccer is her personal escape from reality and from the fact that Dax doesn't seem to know she exists. She figures if she can be good enough at soccer, maybe she can get away from Hackney, and leave the poverty behind.

Kate doesn't plan on ever getting to know Dax as more than a passing acquaintance. In fact, she isn't meant to go with her friend to Dax's father's business, but that one night changes everything.

My Review

I really loved Heather C. Leigh’s Ricochet series and was excited to hear about her upcoming release for a rock band series, Sphere of Irony. I haven’t read a rockstar book for a while and this was definitely a fantastic one. I loved the characters, the band as a whole and the growth of all the characters within. Dax Davies and Kate Campbell were wonderful and realistic.

We begin with Dax Davies, he is one of four sons and their father runs an underground fight club. Dax had his first bone broken at the age of eight by his older brother as their father watched.

The Davies boys have five rules:
1.       Family first;
2.       Never let your emotions show;
3.       No f*@king, shagging, wanking, sucking or getting off for seven days leading up to a fight;
4.       Women who act like slags can be treated like slags; and
5.       Defend what’s yours.

Now at eighteen, Dax has grown into a muscled champion and is known for using girls and his icy demeanour. Dax’s dad dictates everything in his life, from what he eats to who he fights. But Dax has a plan, with his best mate Adam, they’re going to be rockstars.

Kate Campbell has been in love with Dax since they first met at the age of seven. Kate believes she’s invisible to Dax, that he doesn’t even know she exists. But now it’s their final year at high school and Kate’s turned eighteen, her best friend tells her to make a move or forget about Dax. Kate is an aspiring football (soccer) player and has plans of her own, she wants a scholarship out of their hometown and away from Dax.

Adam is besotted with Ellie and when she walks up to Adam in the hallway at school, her friend is with her. Dax knows Kate and that they’ve been in school together for years, but why hasn’t he noticed how gorgeous she is?

She’s not obvious or flashy – no, she’s very – girl next door. Dax is surprised by how affected he is by seeing Kate and why he suddenly cares what she thinks of him.

The four start spending a lot of time together; Kate realises Dax isn’t cold and icy like he appears to be and Dax wants to be a better person when he’s around Kate. He doesn’t want to jump into bed with Kate because she’s special to him and he wants to do things the right way. But when Kate and her friend, Tasha go to watch Dax’s fight, she finds he’s being rewarded by another. Kate felt betrayed and heartbroken.

Time goes on and Kate and Dax head their separate ways, only to have fate throw them together again. Dax and his band have become rock gods and Kate is living her dreams of playing football and going to college. Will they meet up again? Can Kate forgive Dax, even though they weren’t officially an item? Will Dax change his womanising ways to be with Kate?

Follow along with the duo as they live, laugh out loud at their antics and cry along with Kate when the “incident” occurs. Watch Dax become the man everyone can be proud of and see how far they can follow their hearts.

“F*@k the rules, my way is much, much better.”

Ms Leigh has a fabulous world, created around this band of misfits. Dax and Adam best mates have added a couple of Americans and great lads, Gavin and Hawke. I haven’t read Incite yet, which is Adam’s story and it didn’t matter one iota. This book spans over ten years and is an epic, intense love story and should be picked up by all romance readers.

I am stuck on MC books at the moment and I absolutely loved this book. Dragon’s Lair was totally addictive and sizzling hot. The brothers are all fantastic and have quirks of their own, their openness about their sexuality was hilarious and I loved Faye’s reaction to them. Chantal Fernando is a new Australian author to me and I’ve definitely added her to my favourites list; her writing style is incredible.

Faye Connor is twenty three and about to have her life changed forever. Faye grew up as the good girl, doing everything she could to please her mother. Next door was the older bad boy and his brother, and Faye quickly became friends and more. Dexter Black always looked out for Faye growing up, then he disappeared and she became attached to his brother, Eric.

Together Eric and Faye had plans, they’re both studying law and have been together since 9th Grade. The typical good girl, Faye doesn’t drink, smoke and never touched drugs. The problem is, Eric obviously thinks she’s too good and the betrayal she receives isn’t deserved by her or anybody else, for that matter. It’s over!

Faye’s had enough of being good and goes out to a bar, she’s cried for two days straight and realises her life is still ahead of her. Being alone at the bar, it isn’t long before she’s approached. At the end of the night, she heads to her car; she spots a guy she recognises standing next to a beautiful Harley, but it’s the eyes that she knows for sure. She hasn’t seen those eyes for five years.

Dex also recognises Faye and he likes what he sees, Faye has always had a crush on him since she was little. Now though, they both want each other so badly, and now she’s single there’s nothing holding her back.

They spend the night awakening passion Faye didn’t know even existed. But when she gets home, it’s to find Eric inside talking to her Mother. He tries over the next week to get Faye back, but she’s not backing down.

Faye is kicked out of her parent’s house a couple of months later. With nowhere to go, she packs her bags, takes her money and leaves town. She’d always had a plan, but now she has other priorities. Staying at dingy motels, she’s surprised by a knock on her door. DEX! He’s found her and now Faye has no choice but to enter his world at the Wind Dragon’s Motorcycle Club.

Why does Dex want her now? Can she accept life inside the Wind Dragon’s world? Will she be accepted by them? Will Dex ask Faye to be his “old lady”? Can Faye overcome her hang-ups and misconceptions about life in a MC?

This may sound a little vague, but I don’t want to give anything away. Wind Dragon’s Motorcycle Club series is a definite read for all romance readers. Dragon’s Lair is a perfect insight into club life and start of the series. All the brothers are complex and loyal to a fault, but clearly misunderstood. This one had something for everybody, intrigue, unpredictable, sizzling hot scenes and of course sizzling hot bikers. I cannot wait for Arrow’s and Tracker’s stories next.

"Dexter Black doesn't know it yet, but one day he's going to be mine." This was said by Faye when she was only ten years old, even then she knew they belonged together.
"I'm the good girl. I've never cheated, never even held hands with another man. I'm not perfect by any means, but I know, I KNOW, I don't deserve this shit."

5* Book Review of Nowhere But Here by Katie McGarry

Nowhere But Here - Katie McGarry
Summary: An unforgettable new series from acclaimed author Katie McGarry about taking risks, opening your heart and ending up in a place you never imagined possible.

Seventeen-year-old Emily likes her life the way it is: doting parents, good friends, good school in a safe neighborhood. Sure, she's curious about her biological father—the one who chose life in a motorcycle club, the Reign of Terror, over being a parent—but that doesn't mean she wants to be a part of his world. But when a reluctant visit turns to an extended summer vacation among relatives she never knew she had, one thing becomes clear: nothing is what it seems. Not the club, not her secret-keeping father and not Oz, a guy with suck-me-in blue eyes who can help her understand them both.

Oz wants one thing: to join the Reign of Terror. They're the good guys. They protect people. They're…family. And while Emily—the gorgeous and sheltered daughter of the club's most respected member—is in town, he's gonna prove it to her. So when her father asks him to keep her safe from a rival club with a score to settle, Oz knows it's his shot at his dream. What he doesn't count on is that Emily just might turn that dream upside down.

No one wants them to be together. But sometimes the right person is the one you least expect, and the road you fear the most is the one that leads you home.

Well, …………. I’m at a loss! When I finished reading this, I couldn’t think of enough adjectives to describe how much I loved this book. I haven’t read a young adult for a while and was a fan of Katie McGarry’s Pushing the Limits series, but gee, I NEED more of Thunder Road. The characters were strong and variable, the intrigue surrounding Emily’s story was compelling and I was kept speculating throughout. I thought it may be predictable, but the further I read the more my assumptions changed.

Emily is a seventeen year old that will have her world turned upside down and all because her biological dad sent a message. Her top three awful moments of her life so far are:

1.       Meeting her biological father at ten;
2.       Breaking her arm in three places at nine; and
3.       Falling into a hole and being trapped there overnight with a dead body at eight.

Emily believes her stepdad is superman, her own superhero and she thinks the world of him. Eli, her biological father, didn’t want anything to do with her or her mother when she became pregnant as a teenager. They fled Kentucky and haven’t been back, that is until the message from Eli. Now they are all torn.

Emily, Jeff and her mum are travelling to Kentucky and have to face Eli and his biker family. She is curious and has only seen him once a year for the past seven years. Does she have a whole other family there? What and/or how do they live? What do they do for a living?

OZ is seventeen and just graduated high school. He’s has dreamed his whole life of joining the family business since he could walk. Reign of Terror. This motorcycle club is a legit legal club that has a security business attached to it. It’s a dangerous lifestyle though and Oz is champing at the bit to get on the road and protect his dad.

Emily feels so out of place walking into the wake and looking for Eli. With bikers everywhere, her fear escalates and being in a funeral home to begin with has her anxiety at the max. Emily surprises Eli with her presence and then chaos ensues. The Reign of Terror princess has returned.

Emily’s now in danger. Oz is given the task of keeping Emily safe and their attraction is immediate. Even though they hate each other, the connection cannot be denied.

Who is after Emily and why? Why does everybody know the family secret except for Emily? Will Oz accept that Emily is part of the family? Why is her mother so against bikers?

Discover the secrets that surround Emily and if she will finally uncover the truth. Young love, intense loyalty and protective alpha males, strong female protagonists and action are all contained within. Nowhere But Here is absolutely a must read for all young adult readers. It was a lot of fun and the tension between Oz and Emily was amazing, the forbidden love component added to the intenseness and I am desperate to read more from this series. Who will be next?

“The club is a brotherhood, a family. It means belonging to something bigger than yourself.”
"I came here Emily Catherine and I'm leaving here Emily Star and I don't know how to reconcile the two worlds."

5* Book Review of Dirty Rowdy Thing by Christina Lauren

Summary: From the New York Times bestselling author of Beautiful Bastard, Beautiful Stranger, and Beautiful Player, Book Two of the brand-new Wild Seasons series that started with Sweet Filthy Boy—a story of friends, love, and lust.

Despite their rowdy hookups, Harlow and Finn don’t even like each other...which would explain why their marriage lasted only twelve hours. He needs to be in charge and takes whatever he wants. She lives by the Want-something-done? Do-it-yourself mantra. Maybe she’s too similar to the rugged fisherman—or just what he needs.

The second book in the Wild Season’s series, Dirty Rowdy Thing was another fabulous addition to the repertoire of this marvellous duo. Ansel and Mia’s story was splendid and with this group of mates, I cannot wait to read the next, Dark Wild Night surrounding Oliver and Lola. As is the norm with the pair, Christina Lauren’s writing style is amazing with easy flow and fast paced scenes, fun characters and intriguing elements that kept me addicted throughout.

Harlow Vega is twenty-two and her family is her life. Having parents that are famous hasn’t changed the fact that she adores them or how close they are. When some news is given to Harlow, her instinct is the same as always, to fix it. Everybody seems to think Harlow is a ditzy rich girl that isn’t working because she has no ambition, but Harlow is just biding her time for the right opportunity.

Finn Roberts is a thirty-two year old fisherman that has the world on his shoulders. Well, not exactly the world, just his entire family business and livelihood. Finn and his best mates are close, but he’s the type of person to keep his troubles close until a solution is found.

The unlikely trio, the Frenchman, Australian and Canadian have become the best of friends for the past six years and get together as much as they can. Oliver is opening his own comic and graphic novel store, the grand opening is just around the corner and Finn has driven down to stay and celebrate.

Coincidence or fate, Harlow discovers Finn is standing behind her at a Starbucks. She was already furious and frustrated and now seeing him only makes it worse. Of course, Finn was there for Oliver’s store and Harlow realises that she will need to be civil to him since they’ll be seeing each other around.

Harlow and Finn keep running into each other, the same parties, the same friends, of course it’s a given she’ll see him. But oh man, he is HOT and she is really struggling not to jump him as soon as he walk in.

Finn is no better, they can’t stand in the same room without the electricity crackling. Each with their own worries, they both need a distraction. They use each other, but each time they spend time together, they realise there is more inside than outside. Slowly but surely, their lust moves to MORE and the secrets are the only things that stand between them.

Will the both share their troubles with the other? Will Finn open himself up to anyone? Will Harlow realise she can’t fix everything? Will they get back together?

I LOVED Harlow, she was such a fun, fantastic character that’s extremely loyal and protective. Finn, the broody, surly and extremely hot fisherman is certainly the typical male with bottling his struggles because of his pride. Dirty Rowdy Thing was a powerful love story that had intrigue, strong wild lust and sizzling face fanning scenes. With strong characters, strong friendships and no dead spots, this one has something for everybody. The dual point of view allows insight into both lives and it was just bloody amazing.

"I am a fixer.
When my friends need something, I do it, when someone I love can't solve a problem, I find a way. For better or worse, it's what I do." HARLOW

I really loved the sound of this book when the review opportunity became available. I haven’t read a paranormal for a while and this one included a lot of great ingredients. I really loved the whole story, Thorne Hollow and Kataya Clarke were fabulous characters that showed amazing growth and a lot of fun along the way. The only hitch I found with this serialised series was the climax in the final part. I found it addictive and awesome up until that point and would definitely love to hear more about the supporting characters. Benny was seriously incredible.

Thorne Hollow is a two thousand year old immortal that was exiled to Earth for disobeying the Gods. He inherited God-like powers, which is quite rare for a half-breed, but lives his life doing what he loves, assassinating and women.

He is a part of the secret supernatural society, The Sicarii and receives targets to eliminate. He is known throughout and if he comes for you, you know your time on Earth has ended. Benny Deuces is like his best mate, they go along on the other’s assignments to assist. Benny is a full blooded God.

Apotheca is known as the place to be, but it’s also the known spot for supernatural beings where pretty much anything goes, which means its Thorne’s favourite place to find his concubine for the next few hours.

“I don’t know how the hell I’ve put up with you all this time.” “Because we’re like f@#king Batman and Robin, Bonnie and Clyde, SpongeBob and Patrick. We’re partners.”

He finds a woman at Apotheca, a pretty brunette, a mind reader and something more. Thorne feels a connection to her that he hasn’t felt for a very long time. With his desperate need taking over, he has to get her home now and it seems this beauty feels the connection too.

Thorne is breaking all his rules for this woman, Kataya Clarke. He tries to find everything he can about her, but she seems to be a ghost, there’s just nothing. When Benny comes calling, it appears there are more problems to solve than just finding out who Kataya really is.

There is a vision that involves Thorne and he seems to be the only one to stop the Earth and the Gods from being destroyed. Thorne finds secrets are hidden around every corner, people are not as they seem and he may have to sell his soul to the devil himself.

Who is Kataya Clarke? Can Thorne save the Earth and the Gods? Will he ever be accepted by his own people?

Thorne is such a fun character, the hot half-breed, his hilarious banter with Benny and the fiery sizzling scenes all added to a wonderful character that discovers his heart still works. So many elements, mythology, paranormal beings, magic, charm, love, action, intrigue and scorching characters. If you are after something a little different with a lot of components, then The Sicarii is for you.

My Review

Lance is the third and final in the Roughneck Shorts series and I am excited to learn Chelsea Camaron will be writing a spin-off series with some of the other characters. I really loved Lance, he was such a sweetheart with patience beyond anything I’ve ever witnessed and shows traits of being an alpha, but isn’t full on. Again, I loved Ms Camaron’s writing style. It is a testament to her ability as an author to write such different romances throughout this series. The first being typical alpha, the second dark and this one inspirational. I bow down to you Ms Camaron, you are a champion.

Twenty-eight year old Lance Miller has a nickname for being an adrenaline junkie, Rush. He lives for the rush, but when he meets the girl of his dreams, will she be able to give him the rush he needs to settle down. Lance works on an oil rig with Maverick and Heath, its dirty work and hard. But when he gets a chance, Lance is hanging with his mates at the bar or riding his bike.

Lance is determined to treat women the right way. Never using them for their own pleasure or bed hopping. At the bar now, he tries to pick up a curvy girl, but she thinks he’s pulling her leg. Why would a hot guy like him be chasing after a curvy girl when he could have a Barbie wanna-be? He’s the gentleman, not the player and the girls just don’t seem to realise how legitimate he is.

Candace Jones is a pharmacist and enjoys her job. She didn’t have an easy upbringing, she had both parents and was an only child, but her life was far from fun and easy going. Her current boyfriend, Wade is a douchebag and only wants a physical relationship. When she isn’t in the “mood”, his response was: “Do I look like a man to cuddle? Get real, Candy. I am a man, a man with needs.” They have been together almost three months and first met in the pharmacy.

Lance and Reese, (Roughneck Riders team) are at the Pavement Pushers event and when they begin their routine, he sees Reese go down. There’s a woman in the arena and Reese was trying not to run her down. Candace is babbling, crying and clearly hysterical. Lance gets her out of there while Reese is checked out.

Its two weeks later and Lance hanging out with his mates at their usual bar. Coincidentally, he sees Candace and cannot believe his luck. Will Candace give Rush the chance to get to know her? Does she believe he actually wants curvy women over Barbies? Can Candace overcome her insecurities enough to trust and to fall with him?

This was certainly a very inspirational and moving short read. Lance, I just cannot get over this sweet man and all the roughnecks for that matter. This is one series that should be read by all romance readers as each is very different from the others. The insecurities that Candace had were very real, especially for me and I totally connected to everything she was feeling. Another winner from Ms Camaron. Thank you.

Series: standalone

Source: Author for an honest review - thank you.

I am a big fan of Haleigh Lovell since reading her first two books, Vivian’s List and Liam’s List. I was super excited to hear of another book with connecting characters and Julian’s story; he was such a big part of the first two books and I was looking forward to reading more about him. I was definitely not disappointed and Ms Lovell has an incredible writing style that kept me captivated throughout.

Julian Sorenson has been hurt badly before by love. Now out of the Military, Julian has to build a career. He is interviewed for the position as Creative Director at an advertising firm. He is confident and gives the interviewers, Sadie Frost and David Varner, exactly what they want to hear.

At the interview, meeting Sadie Frost has been a highlight for Julian. He was immediately attracted to her and couldn’t wait to put his charm to the test. Now two weeks later, Julian is working for Hall and Heinrich and is being advised by a colleague to stay away from “the sadist Ice Queen”, Sadie. Although Julian listens, he believes Tim was rejected by her in the past and his ego is hurt; all Julian knows is that he wants Sadie.

Julian begins the process of getting under Sadie’s skin and with determination, hard work and a lot of charm, he doesn’t give up until she agrees to frozen yoghurt.

Sadie Frost is a single mother to six year old, Evan. She has had to fight tooth and nail to get where she is right now as Senior Account Executive at Hall and Heinrich. No matter what happens at work, she HAS to keep her icy exterior, show no emotion, do not let anybody know how they really do hurt her.

Nobody has any idea who the father is of Sadie’s son, she came home pregnant from college at eighteen and hasn’t spoken of him. She has never had a relationship since, men have failed her trust. Sadie’s life is complicated, her mother is an alcoholic and behaves like a twenty year old and her son has a condition that requires regular check-ups. There is no way she wants a relationship right now and especially a work colleague. But Julian has other ideas!

Who is Evan’s father? What is wrong with Sadie’s son? Will she give in to the obvious connection she shares with Julian? Can Julian finally break through her barrier and get Sadie to trust him?

Julian’s Pursuit is hilarious, I was laughing out loud at Julian’s antics, and he could always make Sadie smile. Julian is such a sweet sweet man who has been through a lot in his life already. Andrea (Sadie’s mother) was such a fab character also, her way with words was just so funny. This is one fun, sizzling hot, sweet, beautiful and unpredictable love story that all romance readers should pick up.

broken juliet Title: Broken Juliet
Series: Starcrossed #2
Author: Leisa Rayven
Publisher: Pan Macmillan Australia
Released: 1st May 2015
Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance
Format: Paperback
Source: via Publisher, thank you so much!

I was so super excited to read the sequel to Bad Romeo, I absolutely loved the first and wanted to know where it went. I was certainly not disappointed and Broken Juliet was another fabulously written tale of love gone wrong, personal torment and the determination to make things right. I really loved the new Ethan, he was so open and patient, he allowed Cassie to get into his mind from the past to the present. I did get a little annoyed with the back and forth from past to present, but it did allow insight into what was going on.

Cassandra Taylor (Cassie) is broken. She has had her heart shattered and glued back together too many times by Ethan Holt. Now he’s back and wants to fix her yet again, but will she be able to let him in again? Will Ethan be able to help her heal, put her heart back together and get their happily ever after?

“Kintsugi is a noble concept, it doesn’t change the truth that once something is broken, it can never be anything else. Beautiful repair, no matter how elegant, doesn’t make it whole again. It’s still just a collection of pieces impersonating its former shape.”

Ethan and Cassie have been emailing and now that they’re working together, they have no choice but to get along. As they spend more time together, Cassie realises their connection will never fade. Every look, every touch and they have sparks flying and heat souring. How can Cassie deny they’re meant to be together?

Everything comes to a head when Ethan has to leave town for another part and that’s when Cassie will have to make her decision, will she miss him so much that she’ll realise she still loves him OR without him there to keep the tension high, will Cassie decide he isn’t worth the risk?

Follow the back and forth between past and present from only Cassie’s point of view. She was totally relatable and such a fabulous character. Her growth and brokenness would be realistic for so many that have experienced a shattered heart and Ethan’s determination to show her his soul, how he healed with help to become a better person and recognise his self-worth. This series is a must read for all romance readers.

MY REVIEW

Heath is the second in the Roughnecks series by Chelsea Camaron. It’s a fabulous short novella style series with Maverick being the first and Lance being the third. I was looking forward to reading Heath’s story after Maverick. He seemed to be cocky and witty but also extremely loyal. I have to say, I did enjoy Maverick a little more, it didn’t seem to have the intense need and was darker.

Heath “Hitman” Thomas had worked in construction until the economy went to hell and now works with Maverick on an oil rig. Every day he comes home exhausted, dirty and relieved to have made it through another day. Heath’s daily life consists of f@#king, fighting and working. He could have gone professional, but fate had other plans for him. Now he trains with his mate, Wendol and fights in the underground circuit whenever he needs to.

LoraLeigh Riffel or Annie as she’s known to her captors, is counting the days. Its 2188 days since her mother’s dealer sold LoraLeigh to the highest bidder. But she never knows when that will change again. LoraLeigh writes in a notebook each day as a reminder of where she’s been and to give her strength to survive another day.

“One day, I will be more than an item to be bought or sold, won or lost. One day, I will know what it is to be a human being.”
“Daily reminder: I will survive another day. I will find hope. One day, I will be free. One day, I will be me.”

It’s now 412 days with her current owner, Pete “Professor” Charleston, another fighter. This night she is told to dress up to attend his fight. Will she be traded again tonight?

Heath is at an abandoned warehouse and warming up for his first fight of the night. It’s all a lottery, the fighter’s names are drawn out and may or may not be matched evenly, but that’s the luck of the draw. This night he wins his rounds and goes into the final round. Why does he have to fight?

LoraLeigh is told to pack up her stuff, she prays and sobs. What if the next place is worse than her first? How much more can she take? When will it end? Will LoraLeigh ever be free?

Heath comes home after a long hard days’ work to find a redheaded woman on his front porch. He’s in no mood for company and his patience is running out. All he can get out of her is, “I’m your payment”. What will Heath do?

There is a lot more to Heath than I originally thought from Maverick. He is definitely underestimated in his kindness to others and women in particular. As is the norm with Ms Camaron’s books, Heath was spectacularly written and so emotional. It wasn’t as sizzling as Maverick, but I am certainly looking forward to Lance’s story next.

Lance (Roughneck Shorts #3)

Coming 18th May 2015

Value, worth—these are things I don’t have. College degree, great job—none of that matters if you look in the mirror and can’t find anything to love.

Structure, dedication, and determination are the traits that Candace Jones has survived and thrived on. When no one cares at home, it takes her self-drive to push and work her way through college. Life is funny while you’re growing up, and adulthood isn’t any easier than childhood. Little girl dreams are often destroyed before they can even begin.

Lance ‘Rush’ Miller works hard and plays even harder. He lives life from one adrenaline rush to the next, from working as a roughneck to trick riding his street bike. He has it made and knows it.

Two complete opposites are thrown together when Candace finds herself in need of a quick escape that Lance is all too willing to give her.

What happens when firm resolve crashes into wild abandon?

About the Author

Chelsea Camaron - authorChelsea Camaron was born and raised in Coastal North Carolina. She currently resides in Southern Louisiana with her husband and two children but her heart is always Carolina day dreaming.

Chelsea always wanted to be a writer, but like most of us, let fear of the unknown grab a hold of her dream. She realized that if she was going to tell her daughter to go for her dreams, that it was time to follow her own advice.

Chelsea grew up turning wrenches alongside her father, and from that grew her love for old muscle cars and Harley Davidson motorcycles, which just so happened to inspire the Love and Repair and Hellions Ride series.

When she is not spending her days writing you can find her playing with her kids, attending car shows, going on motorcycle rides on the back of her husband’s Harley, snuggling down with her new favorite book or watching any movie that Vin Diesel might happen to be in.
